Abstract

Rain-induced noise on galvalume roofing compromises a building's acoustic comfort, necessitating a coating material with effective sound-dampening properties. This study aims to analyze the effect of Petung bamboo fiber volume fraction on noise levels, the damping coefficient, and the adhesion strength of epoxy-matrix composites applied to galvalume roofing. An experimental study was conducted using composites fabricated via the hand lay-up method, incorporating Petung bamboo fibers treated with 5% NaOH and varying fiber volume fractions of 30%, 40%, 50%, and 60%. The results indicate that increasing the fiber volume fraction reduces noise levels while enhancing the damping coefficient and adhesion strength. The 60% variation yielded optimal performance, achieving a noise level of 82.767 dB, a damping coefficient of 0.854, and an adhesion strength of 2.483 MPa. These findings demonstrate the potential of Petung bamboo fiber composites as an eco-friendly coating material for galvalume roofing to improve acoustic performance and coating reliability
