Abstract

The increased exposure to idealized life on social media is thought to contribute to the emergence of social anxiety in college students. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effect of exposure to idealized life on social media on social anxiety in students at Hamzanwadi University. The research design used was a causal quantitative study with a sample of 99 students, determined using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and processed using SPSS version 22 for Windows. The analysis stages included descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests (normality, linearity, and heteroscedasticity), and simple linear regression. The results showed that exposure to idealized life on social media had a positive and significant effect on social anxiety (p < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.392 indicates that this variable is able to explain 39.2% of the variation in social anxiety, while the remaining 60.8% is influenced by other factors outside the model. These findings indicate that exposure to idealized life on social media is one of the factors contributing to increased social anxiety in students at Hamzanwadi University.
