Abstract

This study aims to identify the most dominant level of celebrity worship among early-adulthood Narawins in Indonesia. Celebrity worship refers to an individual’s psychological attachment to a celebrity, which may be expressed through various forms of involvement in the celebrity’s life. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 114 Narawins aged 18–40 years in Indonesia. Data were collected using the Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS), which measures three levels of celebrity worship: entertainment-social, intense-personal feelings, and borderline-pathological. The validity test resulted in 20 valid items out of 22 items, while the reliability test produced a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.907, indicating that the instrument was reliable. Data were analyzed using frequency analysis, Z-score transformation, and cross-tabulation to identify the dominant level of celebrity worship. The results showed that the most dominant level was borderline-pathological, involving 42 respondents or 36.8%. This was followed by entertainment-social, involving 40 respondents or 35.1%, and intense-personal feelings, involving 32 respondents or 28.1%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the most dominant level of celebrity worship among early-adulthood Narawins in Indonesia in this study was borderline-pathological.
