Abstract

Background: Work fatigue is a common condition experienced by security guards, especially in industrial areas that operate 24 hours a day. Security personnel are required to maintain optimal physical and mental readiness; however, factors such as unbalanced nutritional status, heavy workloads, and psychological stress can trigger a decline in work efficiency and increase safety risks. Aims: This study aims to analyze the correlation between nutritional status, workload, and job stress on fatigue levels among security guards in Industrial Area X Gresik. Methods: This quantitative correlational study utilized a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 54 security guards in Industrial Area X Gresik, with a sample of 47 respondents selected using simple random sampling techniques. Research instruments included Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements for nutritional status, the NASA-TLX questionnaire for workload, DASS-21 for job stress, and the IFRC questionnaire for fatigue. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square statistical test. Results: The findings indicated that the majority of respondents had a normal nutritional status (68.1%). Workload was primarily in the moderate category (34%), while job stress was categorized as moderate and heavy (34% each). A total of 34% of respondents experienced heavy work fatigue. The Chi-Square test results showed no significant correlation between nutritional status and fatigue (p=0.138). However, highly significant correlations were found between workload and fatigue (p=0.000) and between job stress and fatigue (p=0.000). Conclusion: Fatigue among security guards in Industrial Area X Gresik is more heavily influenced by workload and job stress rather than nutritional status. It is recommended that company management pay greater attention to shift scheduling and stress mitigation to reduce guard fatigue levels.
