Abstract

This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes through the use of YouTube as an instructional medium. The study employed a classroom action research (CAR) methodology based on the four stages proposed by Kemmis and McTaggart: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants comprised 39 third-grade students at SDN 3 Sukasari, and the study was conducted over two cycles. Data were collected through learning outcome tests, student and teacher activity observation sheets, and documentation. The data were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The findings demonstrated an improvement in students’ learning outcomes following the integration of YouTube as an instructional medium. The learning mastery rate reached 51.28%, with a mean score of 76.56 in Cycle II, compared with 66.67 in Cycle I; both outcomes met the predetermined success criteria. In addition, teacher and student participation increased throughout the instructional cycles. The modifications implemented in Cycle II included organizing instructional videos according to specific topics, re-uploading learning materials to YouTube, refining the evaluation instruments, and providing enhanced instructional support during learning sessions. These adjustments enabled students to concentrate more effectively, participate more actively in discussions, and develop a better understanding of the learning content. Overall, the findings demonstrate that the use of YouTube as an instructional medium improved the learning outcomes of third-grade students at SDN 3 Sukasari in relation to traditional clothing and traditional houses, while also contributing to a more engaging, dynamic, and meaningful learning experience.
