Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of linguistic impoliteness practiced by Ade Nano in everyday interactions, analyze them based on Brown and Levinson’s face theory, Grice’s cooperative principle, and Yule’s politeness norm and identify the factors influencing the emergence of linguistic impoliteness in Ade Nano. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. The data sources are Ade Nano’s oral speech, obtained through observation, recording, note-taking, interviews, and documentation. The data are then transcribed and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive analysis model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that linguistic impoliteness practiced by Ade Nano includes rude speech, high-pitched commands, as well as sarcasm and mockery. These utterances tend to threaten the positive and negative face of the interlocutor and violate several maxims of Grice’s cooperative principle, particularly the maxims of quality, relevance, and manner. Factors influencing the emergence of linguistic impoliteness include family environment, peer interaction, and low emotional control in communication.
