Abstract

The role of Muslim parents is strategic in strengthening children’s Islamic Religious Education (PAI), particularly within the context of Muslim minority communities in Japan, which are characterized by predominantly non-Islamic cultural values. However, studies examining how Muslim parents integrate local cultural values as a means of strengthening children’s Islamic religious education remain relatively limited. This study aims to analyze the level of success of Muslim parents in integrating local Japanese cultural values to enhance children’s Islamic religious education within Muslim minority communities. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach using a survey method. The research participants consisted of 28 Muslim parents residing in Japan, specifically in the Kitakyushu and Kanto regions. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of percentages. The results indicate that most respondents rated the effectiveness of the parental role as high to very high, with success levels exceeding 80%. This success is reflected in the internalization of values such as discipline, cleanliness, honesty, hard work, and responsibility in children’s daily lives. These findings suggest that the integration of Japanese local cultural values aligned with Islamic teachings is effective in strengthening children’s Islamic religious education. Finally, this study emphasizes the importance of active family involvement in implementing contextual and practical religious education within Muslim minority communities.
