Abstract

Introduction: Mobile NHI is a digital health service developed to facilitate access to National Health Insurance services in Indonesia. Despite its increasing adoption, continued use of the application may depend on users’ perceptions of its usefulness and ease of use. This study aimed to analyze the effects of performance expectancy and effort expectancy on behavioral intention to use the Mobile NHI (National Health Insurance) application at Bahteramas Hospital, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Method: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted among Mobile NHI users at Bahteramas Hospital. The study population comprised 2,092 users, from whom 180 respondents were selected using accidental sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire based on selected constructs of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS. Result: Performance expectancy did not have a statistically significant effect on behavioral intention to use Mobile NHI (t < 1.96; p > 0.05). In contrast, effort expectancy had a statistically significant effect on behavioral intention to use Mobile NHI (t > 1.96; p < 0.05). These findings indicate that perceived ease of use plays a more important role than perceived performance benefits in shaping users’ intention to use Mobile NHI in this setting. Conclusion: Effort expectancy significantly influenced behavioral intention to use Mobile NHI, while performance expectancy did not. Improving usability, user support, digital literacy, and service integration may encourage sustained use.
