Abstract

Stunting remains a critical manifestation of chronic linear growth impairment in under-five children, frequently tied to environmental sanitation conditions. This cross-sectional study analyzed the association between household sanitation indicators healthy latrine ownership, solid waste management, domestic wastewater disposal, and clean water access and stunting incidence among children aged 0–59 months in the Lampaseh Kota Public Health Center area, Banda Aceh. Using a purposive sampling method, 88 children were selected from a total population of 726. Primary data were gathered via structured questionnaires, field observations, and standard anthropometric assessments (height/length-for-age). Data analysis employed descriptive statistics alongside Chi-square and Fisher’s Exact tests. Among the sample, 48 children (54.5%) were identified as stunted. Bivariate analysis indicated no statistically significant associations between stunting incidence and environmental sanitation indicators, including latrine ownership (p=0.301), solid waste management (p=0.918), wastewater disposal systems (p=0.248), or access to clean water sources (p=1.000). While these specific environmental factors demonstrated no direct statistical link to linear growth outcomes in this cohort, effective stunting mitigation demands a comprehensive strategy encompassing nutritional support, infection control, maternal care, socio-economic factors, and broader hygiene infrastructure.
