Abstract

Background: An anthropometric measure linked to prenatal sex hormone exposure, the 2D:4D ratio is thought to be related to features of body development. Nevertheless, research on the connection between teenage height and the 2D:4D ratio is still conflicting. Goal: To ascertain the correlation between students' height and the second-to-fourth-digit (2D:4D) ratio at Methodist Antioch Junior High School in Pancurbatu. Methods: This was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design involving 394 students selected via total sampling. Measurements were taken of index finger length, ring finger length, and height; the relationship between the second digit to the fourth digit (2D:4D) ratio and height was then analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. Results: The mean second digit to the fourth digit (2D:4D) ratio was 1.02 ± 0.10, and the mean height was 150.05 ± 9.14 cm. No significant relationship was found between the second digit to the fourth digit (2D:4D) ratio and height (ρ = 0.014; p = 0.776). Conversely, the lengths of the index finger (ρ = 0.303; p < 0.001) and ring finger (ρ = 0.217; p < 0.001) reflected a positive relationship with height. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between the 2D:4D ratio and height among students at Methodist Antiokhia Junior High School, Pancurbatu, although individual finger lengths are positively correlated with height.
