Abstract

Floods and landslides are potential disasters in Samarinda City, making it important to strengthen students’ disaster knowledge and preparedness from an early age. This community service activity aimed to strengthen the knowledge of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 24 Samarinda regarding flood and landslide disaster mitigation. The activity involved 50 students and was conducted through material delivery, educational videos, group games, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. Evaluation was conducted using pretest and posttest assessments consisting of 20 questions administered through Google Forms. The results showed that the mean pretest and posttest scores were both 94.00. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test indicated that the data were not normally distributed; therefore, the Wilcoxon test was used for further analysis. The Wilcoxon test resulted in an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.679 (> 0.05), indicating no statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. The high initial scores suggest a ceiling effect that limited the measurable increase following the activity. Nevertheless, students actively participated throughout the activity. Thus, the socialization activity primarily functioned as reinforcement of students’ existing disaster knowledge and preparedness. Follow-up activities involving evacuation simulations and emergency response exercises are needed to further strengthen students’ practical skills in responding to disasters.
