Abstract

The failure of the Indonesian National Team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup became a national event that triggered various emotional responses and attitudes from the public, including among students. This study aims to analyze the influence of the failure of the Indonesian National Team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup on the level of nationalism of students of the Digital Business Study Program, Ibn Khaldun University Bogor. The research method used is a quantitative approach with data collection techniques through a Google Form-based questionnaire which is distributed to students of the Digital Business Study Program. The data obtained was analyzed using the Partial Least Square–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method with the help of the SmartPLS application. The independent variable in this study is the failure of the Indonesian National Team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, while the dependent variable is the level of student nationalism. The results of the study show that the failure of the Indonesian National Team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup has an effect on changes in the level of student nationalism, with the value of the path coefficient showing a positive and significant influence. These findings show that national sports events have an important role in shaping student nationalism, especially in the context of emotional reactions, national pride, and support for the Indonesian National Team. This research is expected to be an academic contribution in the study of nationalism and student behavior and become a reference for future research.
