Abstract

Digital instructional media have the potential to support students’ learning motivation, but research on the use of Wordwall in Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) instruction in elementary schools remains limited. This study aimed to analyze changes in students’ learning motivation before and after the use of Wordwall in PAI instruction in Class VA at SDIT Haji Djalaluddin in Agam Regency. The study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design, involving 19 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a learning motivation questionnaire administered before and after the use of Wordwall, then analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, and a paired-samples t test with SPSS 25. The findings showed an increase in the mean learning motivation score from 89.21 at pretest to 106.05 at posttest, with a gain of 16.84 points. All six learning motivation indicators also increased. The difference between scores before and after the use of Wordwall was statistically significant (t(18) = −18.867; p < .001). These findings indicate increased learning motivation following the use of Wordwall and provide preliminary evidence for the use of interactive digital media in PAI instruction. The practical implication is that teachers can consider using Wordwall as an alternative instructional medium to support students’ learning motivation. Further research needs to involve a broader sample and a control group to strengthen the testing of the effects of Wordwall use and the generalizability of the findings.
