Abstract

This study aims to identify the character education values contained in the Ngusaba Melampuan tradition and to analyze the tradition as a form of ethnopedagogy in character education for young people in Bayung Gede Village. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings reveal eight character education values embedded in the Ngusaba Melampuan tradition: religiosity, honesty, discipline, hard work, responsibility, social care, environmental awareness, and friendliness and communication skills. These values are reflected in religious ceremonies, adherence to customary rules, task completion, cooperation, and interactions among participants throughout the tradition. As a form of ethnopedagogy, the Ngusaba Melampuan tradition provides a learning environment for young people through direct experience, habituation, social interaction, and intergenerational transmission of knowledge. Participation in various traditional activities allows young people to learn customary rules, fulfill responsibilities, develop life skills, and practice character values in community life. Therefore, the Ngusaba Melampuan tradition functions not only as a customary and religious practice but also as a source of local wisdom-based learning that supports character education for young people in Bayung Gede Village.
