Abstract

Smoking behavior is still a major health issue in Indonesia, including in Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency. This study aims to identify demographic factors associated with smoking behavior in residents aged 15 years and over in the district. The data used came from the March 2024 Susenas with a quasi-binomial logistic regression analysis approach. The results of the analysis show that gender, place of residence, education level, and age group have a significant effect on the likelihood of someone becoming a smoker. Men, rural residents, individuals with education below high school, and adult age groups have a higher tendency to smoke. Meanwhile, marital status and school status did not show a significant effect. The regression model showed good results with an overdispersion value of 0.82, indicating a good fit of the model to the data. These findings emphasize the importance of a data-driven approach in designing policy interventions, especially for high-risk groups such as low-educated adult men living in rural areas. This study is expected to be a basis for more targeted tobacco control efforts at the regional level.
