Tourism development in coastal areas requires effective promotion strategies that are also environmentally sustainable. This community service activity aimed to improve community understanding of tourism development and marine ecosystem conservation through the use of simple English vocabulary. The activity was conducted on 11 August 2024 in the Ujung Kulon resort area and involved coastal communities, particularly fishermen and local tourism actors who play a crucial role in tourism activities. The main objective of this program was to introduce basic English terms commonly used in tourism promotion while increasing awareness of the importance of protecting marine ecosystems. The method used in this activity was participatory socialization, which included material presentations, interactive discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The materials focused on simple English vocabulary for naming tourist destinations, describing marine attractions, and promoting tourism through social media, as well as basic concepts of marine ecosystem conservation. Community participation was encouraged throughout the activity to ensure that the materials were easily understood and relevant to local conditions. The results showed an improvement in participants’ understanding of the role of English as an international communication tool for tourism promotion. Participants also demonstrated increased awareness of the need to protect marine ecosystems as a key factor in sustainable tourism development. Overall, this activity contributed to strengthening community involvement in promoting local tourism and supporting sustainable tourism development based on marine ecosystem conservation.
