Abstract

Topical anti-inflammatory treatment can be administered by formulating Palmarosa essential oil into an emulgel dosage form at concentrations of 2%, 4%, and 6%, which is then tested on rats. In topical preparations, storage conditions greatly affect stability; therefore, stability testing is necessary to determine whether the preparation remains suitable for use. This study aims to evaluate the stability of emulgel formulations containing Palmarosa essential oil. The essential oil was formulated into emulgel preparations at concentrations of 2%, 4%, and 6%. Each of the three formulations underwent physical stability tests, including organoleptic evaluation, spreadability, adhesiveness, pH, and viscosity tests, using the cycling test method for 6 cycles. Based on statistical analysis, all emulgel formulations of Palmarosa essential oil demonstrated good physical stability after the cycling test. Changes in pH, adhesiveness, and spreadability parameters were not statistically significant. Formula 3 was considered the most stable formulation, as changes across all parameters were statistically insignificant and it maintained the most consistent physical characteristics after stability testing.

Abstract

Bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides L.) is a wild plant that grows quickly and thrives in various types of soil. Bandotan contains various metabolite compounds, one of which is phenolic compounds. This study aims to obtain a stable cream preparation by varying the concentration of stearic acid and triethanolamine (TEA) to obtain an optimal formulation. The cream was formulated with varying concentrations of stearic acid of 18%, 19%, and 20%, and TEA of 3%, 2.5%, and 2%. Stability evaluation was carried out using the cycling test method which includes organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, adhesiveness, spreadability and viscosity. The results showed that the ethanol extract of bandotan herb containing phenolic compounds with all variations of stearic acid and TEA concentrations met the test requirements and did not show differences in organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, adhesiveness, spreadability and viscosity. Statistical test results indicate that the cream preparation is physically stable, as there was no significant difference between the cream preparation before and after the cycling test, but there was a significant decrease in phenolic content.

Abstract

Fever is a physiological response to infection characterized by an increase in body temperature due to prostaglandin production in the hypothalamus. Phyllanthus niruri contains flavonoids and alkaloids with potential antipyretic activity. The development of transdermal patch dosage forms is intended to improve therapeutic effectiveness by avoiding first-pass metabolism. Ethanol extract of meniran at two dose levels, 0.3 g and 0.6 g/200 g body weight of rats. Patch characteristics were evaluated including organoleptic properties, pH, weight uniformity, thickness, folding endurance, and moisture absorption. The antipyretic activity test was conducted on male white rats induced with DPT-HB-Hib vaccine. The ethanol extract of meniran yielded 14.39% and tested positive for flavonoids and alkaloids. All patch formulations met the requirements for transdermal dosage forms. The antipyretic test showed that formula F2 (0.6 g/200 g BW) had higher effectiveness than F1 (0.3 g/200 g BW), with %AAP values of 2.021% and 1.884%. Statistical analysis indicated a significant difference among treatment groups (p < 0.05).
