Abstract

The curriculum is a fundamental element in the educational process that influences the trajectory and caliber of schooling. This study seeks to examine and comprehend the opinions of school principals concerning curriculum management in both public and private schools, specifically addressing the execution of the independent curriculum. This research employs a qualitative design, specifically a literature review or library study. The data were gathered through a literature examination of books, scientific journals, articles, and pertinent policy papers. The results indicate a significant divergence in the interpretation of the curriculum by school principals. Public school principals prioritize adherence to governmental rules, bolstered by resources and training, yet encounter difficulties in teacher adaptation and managing a substantial student population. Conversely, private school principals saw the curriculum as a malleable domain for innovation, but constrained by financial resources and insufficient continuous training. The perceptions of school principals are shaped by internal and external variables, organizational culture, educational policies, and resource availability. This research advocates for the enhancement of school administrators roles by ongoing training, fostering collaboration among schools, and instituting adaptive policies to ensure optimal curriculum management in each institution. The research findings offer practical contributions to policymakers and education administrators while also enhancing scholarly understanding of educational administration and school leadership in Indonesia
