Abstract

Self-development has become an important issue in responding to the psychological and spiritual challenges of modern society. However, previous studies have generally examined Islamic self-development from fragmented theological or psychological perspectives, leaving limited conceptual integration between the Qur'an, Hadith, and contemporary self-actualization theory. This study aims to develop a conceptual synthesis of Qur'anic and Hadith-based self-development as a framework for fostering human self-actualization. This qualitative study employed a literature review design using peer-reviewed journal articles, books, Qur'anic verses, and authentic Hadith as primary data sources. The literature was selected through relevance, credibility, and topicality criteria and analyzed using thematic content analysis to identify recurring concepts and their relationships. The findings reveal that Islamic self-development is built upon six interconnected principles: muhasabah (self-reflection), sabr (patience), shukr (gratitude), ikhtiar (persistent effort), tawakal (trust in God), and optimism. These principles form an integrative conceptual model that links spiritual awareness, psychological resilience, moral character, and self-actualization, extending beyond conventional humanistic perspectives. The study contributes theoretically by proposing a holistic Islamic framework for self-development and provides practical implications for integrating Qur'anic and Hadith values into Islamic education, character development, counseling, and mental health promotion. Future studies are recommended to empirically validate this conceptual model across different educational and community settings
