Abstract

Stunting remains a nutritional problem in Indonesia. One of the government's efforts to address this problem is the provision of Special Medical-Purpose Food (PKMK) to patients at risk of stunting. This study aimed to evaluate the program in terms of input, process, and output, with the findings expected to inform program evaluation and improvements in addressing stunting in Indonesia. This study employed a qualitative research design with a case study approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The interviews involved the Head of Medical Support Services as the key informant, three healthcare professionals as primary informants, and ten parents of children with stunting as supporting informants. The findings indicated that hospital services had been implemented in accordance with established service standards. However, challenges arose from the target population, particularly the high number of PKMK recipients who discontinued the program before its completion (dropout). Other challenges in achieving improvements in stunting status included mothers' limited understanding of stunting and its long-term effects, inadequate education on the preparation and administration of PKMK, and feeding portions that did not comply with the recommended guidelines. Therefore, ongoing assistance and monitoring at both community health centers (Puskesmas) and household levels are needed to improve program adherence and support stunting management
