Abstract

An incision wound is a type of tissue damage susceptible to infection if not properly treated. The use of natural substances as an alternative for wound healing offers potential benefits due to the presence of bioactive compounds that facilitate tissue regeneration. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of a combination of red betel (Piper crocatum L.) and aloe vera (Aloe vera L.) methanol extracts on incision wound healing in mice (Mus musculus L.). An experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed, involving five treatment groups and five replicates. Sample size determination using Federer's formula resulted in five mice per group, requiring a total of 25 mice. The treatment groups consisted of a negative control, a positive control (povidone-iodine), and treatment with 5% red betel extract and 5% aloe vera, treatment with 10% red betel extract and 10% aloe vera, and treatment with 15% red betel extract and 15% aloe vera. Observed parameters included wound length progression, percentage of wound healing, and phytochemical content. The data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA followed by Duncan's test. The results demonstrated that the application of 15% red betel extract and 15% aloe vera extract was the treatment with the greatest observed linear wound closure in mice, resulting in an average wound length of 0.62 cm on day 14.
