Abstract

Flowerhorn fish is a type of hybrid fish with several genera, namely Cichlasoma, Amphilophus, and Paraneetroplus. In Indonesia, flowerhorn fish has been a popular ornamental fish since the 2000s. This study aims to determine the effect of providing different types of feed on the growth and color changes of flowerhorn fish (Amphilophus trimaculatus). The feed used included artificial feed (pellets) as a control and three types of natural feed, namely Hong Kong worms, rice shrimp, and crickets. The study was conducted for 60 days using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications, so there were 12 experimental units. The parameters observed included weight growth, length growth, changes in fish body color, and water quality. The results showed that different types of feed had a significant effect on the growth and color changes of flowerhorn fish (p <0.05). The highest weight and length growth were obtained in treatment D (crickets), with an average final weight of 30.4 g and a length of 5.3 cm. Meanwhile, the highest color change occurred in treatment C (rice shrimp), with an average color scale value of 4.7. Water quality during the study was within the optimal range for Flowerhorn fish cultivation (temperature 28–30°C and pH 7.5–8.5). It can be concluded that providing crickets as a feed is most optimal for supporting the growth of Flowerhorn fish, while rice shrimp is most effective in increasing the intensity of the fish's body color. This study is expected to be a reference for Flowerhorn fish farmers in selecting the right type of natural feed to increase fish productivity and quality.
