Abstract

This study aims to examine fishermen's perceptions of work safety equipment at the Ulee Lheue Fishing Port, Banda Aceh. The method used is quantitative descriptive, with a purposive sampling technique on 31 active fishermen who meet the criteria of work experience, productive age, and vessel size. Data collection was carried out through closed questionnaires, in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. High Awareness Level: Fishermen have a high awareness of the importance of work safety, especially for basic safety equipment such as life jackets, telephones, and flashlights which reached an average value of 4.9-5.0, fishermen's understanding of work safety is still limited to additional safety equipment. Additional safety equipment such as inner tubes, distress signals, dippers, and sacks are less noticed with an average value of only 2.1-2.8, Differences Based on Vessel Size: The larger the vessel size (GT), the more complete the safety equipment available. Risks and factors of work accidents faced by Ulee Lheue fishermen include: drowning, stranding at sea, fatalities, Environmental and Weather Factors, Equipment maintenance factors, Safety equipment factors. The results of this study are expected to provide input for policies to improve occupational safety for fishermen in a sustainable manner.
