Abstract

The sandwich generation refers to individuals who are responsible for supporting both their parents and their children, placing them in a position between two generations, similar to the filling between two slices of bread. The sandwich generation typically involves members of a family who simultaneously fulfill responsibilities toward their parents and children. An andragogical approach, which focuses on adult learning and development, can be applied to understand and address the challenges faced by the sandwich generation. This study employed a literature review method, with data collected through Google Scholar. The findings and discussion indicate that the major factors contributing to problems experienced by the sandwich generation include financial difficulties, multiple roles, subjective well-being, and parenting patterns. These conditions may increase their vulnerability to stress and depression, highlighting the importance of effective coping strategies. This study is expected to serve as a reference for the sandwich generation in preventing and managing problems that may trigger stress.
