Abstract

Numeracy is an important ability that needs to be developed in students to enable them to use mathematical knowledge to solve problems in various contexts. However, students’ numeracy in Indonesia remains relatively low, indicating the need for more innovative learning approaches supported by the use of technology. This study aimed to determine whether students’ numeracy achievement through the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by the Desmos application was better than that of students taught using the direct learning model. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The population consisted of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 8 Purworejo in the 2025/2026 academic year. The sample was selected using the cluster random sampling technique. Data were collected using a numeracy test and analyzed using an independent-samples t-test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the calculated t-value was 2.544, with [t-value/critical value], leading to the rejection of H₀. This result indicated a difference in numeracy achievement between the experimental and control classes. The finding was further supported by the mean score of 76.50 for the experimental class and 65.75 for the control class. Therefore, students’ numeracy achievement through the PBL model assisted by the Desmos application was better than that of students taught using the direct learning model.
