Abstract

This research seeks to examine the influence of perceptions regarding the teaching profession and career orientation on the interest of students specifically those in education programs in becoming educators, as well as to examine the mediating role of digital teaching readiness in the relationships between these variables. This quantitative study involved 187 student of the Office Administration Education Study Program (Class of 2023) at Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Data were examine through PLS-SEM (SmartPLS 4.0) to test direct and indirect effects and the R-squared value of the structural model. Perception of the teaching profession directly fosters interest in becoming a teacher, while career orientation only matters through digital teaching readiness. Perception of the teaching profession is the most dominant factor; future research should add external variables such as family environment using a longitudinal design. This study tests digital teaching readiness as a mediator within a single SCCT model, showing that the relationship between career orientation and interest in becoming a teacher emerges through digital teaching readiness.
