Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between school principal leadership and teacher work motivation at public high schools throughout the Koto Tangah subdistrict of Padang City. This is a quantitative study of a correlational nature. The study population consisted of 188 teachers, and the sampling technique used was proportionate stratified random sampling, which involves selecting samples at random based on strata of length of service and educational level in proportion to their respective frequencies. The study sample consisted of 51 teachers. Data were collected by distributing a questionnaire using a Likert scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Product-Moment correlation formula with the assistance of SPSS software. The results showed that teachers’ work motivation fell into the “very high” category, with an average score of 3.88 and an achievement rate of 97.09%. Meanwhile, the principal’s leadership was in the “very good” category, with an average score of 140.33 out of an ideal score of 144 and an achievement rate of approximately 97.45%. Hypothesis testing yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.664 with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. These results indicate that there is a positive, strong, and significant relationship between the principal’s leadership and teachers’ work motivation at public high schools throughout the Koto Tangah subdistrict of Padang City.
