Abstract

This study is a descriptive qualitative research aimed at analyzing the symbolic attachment between the lyrical subject and Palestine in Fadwa Tuqan’s poem titled “Kafānī Aẓillu bi Huḍnihā” using John Bowlby’s attachment theory. The primary data consists of the poem “Kafānī Aẓillu bi Ḥuḍnihā” by Fadwa Tuqan. In contrast, the secondary data includes books, news articles, journal articles, and theoretical literature related to Palestine, Attachment Theory, and the historical-social context. Data were collected through triangulation (data collection, reduction, and display) and analyzed using content analysis with a heuristic-hermeneutic approach. The interpersonal relationship between people and place is represented through the Palestinian people’s affective attachment to the land of Palestine, expressed through the word “حُضْنِ,” which means “the homeland as a mother’s embrace. The research findings indicate the presence of attachment concepts from John Bowlby’s theory divided into six concepts (Safe Haven, Secure Base, Internal Working Model, Continuity of Attachment, Intergenerational Attachment, and Enduring Attachment) as derived from the symbols used in the poem “Kafānī Aẓillu bi Huḍnihā,”. This study contributes to the understanding of literature as a social tool that plays a dynamic role in society by fostering a literate awareness that brings comfort to fellow human beings.
