Abstract

Science learning in madrasahs is often delivered separately from Islamic values, even though the madrasah curriculum calls for their integration and teachers lack ready-to-use materials for it. This study aimed to develop a science teaching module on Substances and Their Changes for Grade VII MTsN that integrates Islamic values, and to examine its validity and teachers’ response. It was a Research and Development study using the ADDIE model, covering the Analysis, Design, and Development stages and a limited Implementation stage in which only teachers’ readiness was examined; evaluation was formative. The needs analysis involved one science teacher and 33 Grade VII students at MTsN 2 Pontianak. Two pairs of expert validators assessed material, media, language, the module and student worksheets, and Islamic integration, and seven science teachers from two madrasahs completed a response questionnaire. Validity was analysed with Gregory’s content validity technique and teacher responses with percentage scores. The module integrates Islam through a Qur’anic verse at the opening, reflective questions in every stage of discovery learning, and a Muslim scientist’s story at the close of each meeting. Content validity reached 1.00 (very high) on all six aspects, and teacher response averaged 90.78% (very attractive). The module is therefore valid and attractive to teachers as a reference for integrated science teaching. Its effect on students’ learning has not been tested and needs further research.
