Abstract

Students in junior high school still often engage in social loafing, which is defined as "the tendency of individuals to reduce their effort when working in a group," when participating in group projects. The purpose of this research is to find out if junior high school students who participated in group guidance programs that used the sociodrama approach were able to cut down on their instances of social loafing. With a one-group design and pre- and post-treatment measurements, the study used a quantitative method. Eighteen eighth graders were randomly selected through a purposive selection process to make up the research participants, who were split into two groups of eight each. In order to gauge the extent to which individuals tended to pull their weight and how closely they were knit together, researchers administered a social loafing propensity questionnaire. Three sessions made up the therapy, which included group direction using the sociodrama approach. The experimental group's average posttest score was 77.13 (moderate), up 19.50 points from their low pretest score of 57.63; in contrast, the control group exhibited no statistically significant improvement. Z = -2.524 with a significance level of 0.012 was the result of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test; this is lower than the previously stated significance threshold, suggesting that the difference between the two groups was significant. It follows that junior high school students' social loafing may be effectively reduced by group guidance services that use the sociodrama approach.
