Abstract

Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) is one of the most popular medicinal plants for its rhizome's pharmacological and economic value. Indonesia as a country with high biodiversity, has a wide level of turmeric diversity. Studies regarding the genetic diversity and relationship of Indonesian local turmeric collection is still limited to this day. This research aimed to obtain information regarding the genetic diversity and relationship of 89 Indonesian local turmeric accessions. The experimental design used in this research was Rancomized Complete Block (RCB) based Augmented Design with 3 blocks and 6 checks variety replicated in each block. This research was conducted from January 2024 to February 2025 in Ciparanje Experimental Field, Unpad. There are 25 characters observed according to the Guidelines composed by India's Department of Agriculture in 2001. The obtained data were analyzed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to estimate the phenotypic variation. The genetic relationship was estimated by Cluster Analysis shown in Dendogram. Results showed the observed accessions have a high phenotypic variation with 7 significant PC that has Eigenvalues ranging from 1,090-5,440 and a Cumulative Variation of 68,20%.There are 8 characters that were significant towards the emerged diversity. A wide genetic relationship amongst the accessions was shown by the Euclidean distance ranging from 1.8 - 9.8. The emerged wide genetic diversity and relationship indicate that there is a high potential of Indonesian local turmeric accessions to be developed by plant breeders.
