Abstract

The expansion of digital technology has made junior high school students intensive users of the internet and social media, but their understanding of data privacy remains limited to technical caution and has not been internalized as a human right closely related to human dignity. This community service activity aims to improve eighth-grade students’ understanding of data privacy as a human right from a philosophical perspective. The activity was conducted on 12 August 2026 in a classroom at SMP Negeri 2 Kajen and involved 24 eighth-grade students. The implementation method combined interactive presentations, case discussions, and decision-making simulations. The materials covered the concept of personal data, the legal basis of privacy as a human right, a simplified philosophical review of dignity and contextual integrity, digital risks commonly faced by adolescents, and simple practices for protecting personal data. Achievement was measured by comparing pre-test and post-test results on five indicators. The evaluation showed an increase on all indicators, with the average percentage of participants who answered that they understood or were able rising from 25.8% in the pre-test to 88.3% in the post-test. The activity demonstrates that socialization based on human-rights reasoning and philosophy is effective in strengthening students’ digital privacy awareness. Follow-up programs are recommended through classroom integration, teacher involvement, and mentoring of student digital ambassadors so that the change in awareness can be sustained in the school environment.
