Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem and remains a major public health concern in Indonesia because it affects children's growth and development. The prevalence of stunting in Indonesia remains relatively high, including in West Nusa Tenggara Province, which is one of the priority areas for stunting reduction programs. Environmental factors, particularly access to clean water and adequate sanitation, are suspected to contribute to the occurrence of stunting. This study aimed to determine the relationship between water sources, environmental sanitation (feasibility and maintenance), and the incidence of stunting among toddlers aged 6–24 months in the working area of the Bagu Primary Health Center, Central Lombok. This study employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 43 respondents were included using a total sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the Pearson Chi-square test and Fisher's exact test. The majority of respondents had an economic status below the minimum wage (81.4%). Statistically, there was no significant relationship between the primary water source and the severity of stunting (p=1.000), nor between environmental sanitation and the severity of stunting (p=0.106). Water and environmental sanitation showed no significant correlation with the degree of stunting in this study population, likely due to the homogeneity of the respondents' socioeconomic status. It is recommended that interventions focus on improving specific nutritional intake.
