Abstract

The ability to think computationally (computational thinking) is one of the important skills of the 21st century that needs to be developed from an early age, especially in children aged 5-6 years. However, in the learning practice at RA Azzahra, this ability is still not developed optimally because learning tends to be conventional and also does not provide opportunities for exploration. These findings aim to improve children's computational thinking abilities through the application of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) based learning. The method used was Classroom Action Research which was carried out in two cycles with the subject of 12 group B children. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, documentation, as well as child development assessment sheets. The findings prove a significant increase in children's computational thinking abilities. In the pre-cycle, the Not Yet Developing (BB) category was 33.3%, Starting to Develop (MB) 41.7%, and also Developing According to Expectations (BSH) 25%. In Cycle I there was an improvement to 8.3% BB, 66.7% MB, and also 25% BSH. In Cycle II, results increased to 0% BB, 33.3% MB, and also 66.7% BSH. Thus, STEAM-based learning has proven to be effective in improving the computational thinking abilities of young children gradually and sustainably.
