Abstract

This research is motivated by the presence of students with low learning motivation due to students being encouraged to skip certain lessons by their friends, peers who consistently disrupt the learning process, and peers who insult or belittle students' learning abilities. This study aims to determine: 1) peer interaction among eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Rao, 2) learning motivation among eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Rao, and 3) the effect of peer interaction on learning motivation among eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Rao.This study used a quantitative research method, simple linear regression analysis. The population was 81 students, and the sampling technique was purposive sampling. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire. Data analysis used percentages and simple linear regression. The results of this study indicate: 1) peer interaction among eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Rao is in the high category. 2) learning motivation among eighth-grade students at SMP N 1 Rao is in the low category. 3) There is an influence of peer interaction on the learning motivation of seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Rao by 14%. The results of the study indicate that peer interaction has a negative influence on student learning motivation, where the higher the peer interaction, the lower the student learning motivation. This study is recommended to the principal, guidance and counseling teachers, and students, so that students no longer engage in negative peer interactions and increase good learning motivation.
