Abstract

A Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) is essential for maintaining continuous detection in home cabinet security systems, particularly for addressing the blocking delays associated with image transmission to Telegram in a superloop architecture. This study aims to evaluate the reliability of a FreeRTOS-based architecture compared with the conventional superloop approach on the ESP32-CAM. The proposed system integrates the FreeRTOS kernel with a sensor-fusion mechanism consisting of a PIR sensor as an initial trigger and an SW-420 vibration sensor for secondary confirmation, while the Telegram Bot API is used for alert transmission. Testing was conducted using 55 physical stimuli, with capture rate, blocking delay, and response time as the evaluation parameters. The experimental results demonstrate that the FreeRTOS architecture achieved a 100% capture rate by isolating network-related blocking delays within a dedicated network task, although it resulted in a slightly higher response time. In contrast, the superloop architecture exhibited critical data loss, with up to 58.18% of events not successfully captured due to CPU blocking during image transmission. These findings demonstrate that FreeRTOS is a suitable architecture for improving the reliability and continuity of early theft detection in enclosed storage units.
