Abstract

Abstract             This study aimed at describing the communication strategies used by bilingual children of interracial marriage family in doing interaction with their family at Singapadu village, Sukawati distric, Gianyar regency, Bali province. The subjects of this study were two bilingual children of interracial marriage family. The investigation focused on the types of communication strategies that they used in doing interaction with their family, the most frequently communication strategy that they applied when they were doing the interaction, and their reasons in using the communication strategies. This research was a case study which combined qualitative and quantitative analysis in which a triangulation technique was used. The results of the data analysis show that the bilingual children used seven communication strategies which included: topic avoidance, approximation, circumlocution, clarification request, paralanguage, using pictures or objects to help conveying message, and speaking slowly. The most frequently used communication strategy used by the bilingual children was paralanguage. There were three main reasons that they stated in using the strategies, the first to make the family understand of what they expected, the second because the strategies were easy and natural, and the last reason because the strategies were quick to be used. Keywords: Communication strategies, children of interracial marriage family

Abstract

The demand for students with disabilities to get English lesson underlies the use of instructional media to help teachers to convey instructions as well as students in understanding English. Related to this case, this study aims to describe the types of instructional media used by teacher in SLB Negeri 2 Singaraja to teach an autistic student. The research data were gathered through observation, interviews, and document study. Based on the data obtained, it was found that the teacher used four types of instructional media namely videos, pictures, matching exercise, and real objects. As an implication, instructional media used by the teacher can convey instructions to autistic student even though they did not perfectly understand. Autistic student also understood English lesson better through these media than just listening to the teacher?s speech.

Abstract

This research investigated (1) the implementation of Flipped Classroom for teaching English; (2) the students’ achievement; (3) the students’ opinion; and (4) the differences between the high and low achieving students’ opinion toward Flipped Classroom. There were 41 seventh grade students and one English teacher of the seventh grade investigated. In this research, interview, questionnaires and lesson plan analysis were analyzed using interactive model; meanwhile the post-test and high and low achieving students’ opinion given were statistically analyzed using SPSS 16. It was resulting that in implementing Flipped Classroom the teacher did several preparations and teaching procedures which differentiated the classroom activity and home activity; the students’ achievement was seen to be good; the students also perceived the learning positively; the differences among high and low achieving students’ opinion were not significantly seen. This research helps the teacher who wants to implement flipped classroom as a consideration in teaching.

Abstract

The 21st century education brings changes in the classroom practices that are increasingly complex along with the development of the technology. This demands the teachers to adapt their teaching and insert 21stcentury skills in the classroom. This research aimed data analyzing how English  teachers implements learning and innovation skills of 21st century education in teaching English as a foreign language in SMA Negeri 2 Singaraja. A mixed-method was implemented as the method in this study. The research subjects were4 English teachers in SMA Negeri 2 Singaraja. Due to pandemic situation of Corona virus, the data were collected using questionnaire and interview without observations. The results of the questionnaire and interview showed that English teacher inserted learning and innovation skills in their objectives and activities in lesson plans and the English teacher taught the students by inserting the learning and innovation skills. However, the teachers faced problems especially in choosing appropriate materials for their students who are in different levels of abilities.Keyword: 21st century skills, learning and innovation skills

Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 mengakibatkan proses pembelajaran dilaksanakan secara daring. Pembelajran daring mengakibatkan siswa lebih banyak belajar secara mandiri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis persepsi guru bahasa Inggris tentang pembelajaran mandiri selama pembelajaran daring, mengamati aktivitas yang ditugaskan oleh guru dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran mandiri di kelas online, dan untuk mengidentifikasi komponen pembelajaran mandiri dari aktivitas yang ditugaskan. oleh guru. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode embedded mix, yaitu penelitian yang data kualitatif lebih dominan daripada data kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian dalam penelitian ini adalah guru Bahasa inggris yang menerapkan pembelajaran daring. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ada tiga yaitu angket penilaian diri, tabel observasi, dan tabel klasifikasi. Data hasil penelitian berupa data kualitatif dan kuantitatif dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru memiliki jawaban positif yang signifikan terhadap angket penilaian mandiri pembelajaran mandiri; aktivitas guru tidak mencerminkan semua komponen pembelajaran mandiri; hanya ada 2 komponen pembelajaran mandiri yang muncul dalam aktivitas guru.
