Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ perceptions of the use of Artificial Intelligence (ChatGPT) in the history learning process in class X of SMA Negeri 1 Lubuklinggau. This research utilizes a descriptive quantitative approach with a population of 360 students and a sample of 155 respondents determined an using lottery random sampling with samples 15 and 16 in one odd and even class. Data was collected using a closed questionnaire instrument encompassing four main indicators: ease of use, usefulness, trust and risk, and ethics. The results showed that students’ perceptions of using ChatGPT were in a significantly good category, with an overall agreement percentage reaching 71.42% (mean score of 89.27). Specifically, students found it highly beneficial in simplifying complex historical materials and remarkably easy to operate. Regarding risks, students’ critical literacy is maintained through the habit of cross-checking information with official textbooks. Despite a dominant positive comprehension, the study identified ethical gaps where some students still tolerate using AI secretly without teacher supervision. In conclusion, ChatGPT is viewed as an exceptionally effective history learning catalyst, yet its implementation strongly requires technical guidance and strict ethical regulations from the school.
