Abstract

The profile of students' critical thinking skills and environmental awareness is crucial information needed as a basis for developing relevant and contextual science learning media. This study aims to analyze the profile of junior high school students' critical thinking skills and environmental awareness as a fundamental foundation in developing digital learning media. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative, involving junior high school students at several junior high schools in Nganjuk Regency as research subjects. Data collection instruments included a critical thinking skills test developed based on Facione indicators and an environmental awareness questionnaire adapted from the NEP (New Ecological Paradigm). The results of the study indicate that students' critical thinking skills are generally in the fairly critical category, with analysis and explanation indicators being the aspects that need the most attention. Students' overall environmental awareness is in the good category, but the dimension of rejection of human exceptionalism shows the lowest achievement among other dimensions. The findings of this profile emphasize the need for innovative learning tools that can construct critical reasoning and ecological sensitivity simultaneously. The conclusions of this study provide strategic recommendations for the development of Problem-Based Learning (PBL)-based e-modules that integrate local environmental issues as an effort to comprehensively improve student competency.
