Abstract

This study aims examine the socio-cultural meanings embedded in the Makan Seperindokan tradition in Malay wedding customs in Sekura Village, Teluk Keramat District, Sambas Regency. This research employed a discriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants were selected purposively from tradition leaders and local community members. The findings reveal that the Makan Seperindokan tradition is a symbolic ceremonial process reflecting the values of togetherness, harmony, and reciprocal relationships between husband an wife. The practices of eating from the same container, feeding each other, and drinking together symbolize unity in married life. Furthermore, this tradition serves as a mechanism of social integration that strengthens kinship ties, solidarity, and mutual cooperation within the community. From the perspective of Talcott Parsons, this tradition reflects the function of integration and pattern maintenance within the social system. Despite shifts caused by modernization, this tradition continues to be preserved as part of the cultural identity of the Malay community.
