Abstract

This study evaluates the implementation of green housekeeping practices at a luxury resort as part of its sustainability commitment, addressing the limited practical assessment of how such policies operate in daily housekeeping routines in luxury resorts. Using a descriptive qualitative case study design, data were collected from January to June 2025 through semi-structured interviews with key housekeeping personnel, direct observation based on nine green housekeeping indicators, and review of internal sustainability and certification documents. Findings reveal a solid foundation of green housekeeping, including eco-friendly cleaning products, single-use plastic reduction, linen and towel reuse, energy-saving practices, and collaboration with external partners, supported by Green Globe certification. Nevertheless, gaps persist in waste separation, staff participation, supporting infrastructure, and workload pressures during high occupancy, indicating that policy commitment alone is insufficient without consistent supervision, differentiated training, and stronger operational support. The study concludes that green housekeeping effectiveness depends on formal policy, daily work routines, staff understanding, and supervisory mechanisms, and recommends structured monitoring, improved waste-sorting facilities, targeted training, and recognition-based motivation to enhance long-term implementation.
