Abstract

This article discusses the history and customs of Kepaksian Buay Bejalan Diway, one of the four main kepaksian (traditional principalities) in Skala Brak, West Lampung. Founded by Empu Bejalan Diway, this kepaksian has a lineage that reaches the 20th generation and is currently led by Suttan Jaya Kesuma. The inheritance of titles follows the Sebatin customary system, with an official coronation ceremony for successors who are already married. The research methods used in this study include in-depth interviews with traditional leaders and analysis of relevant customary books. Through cultural activities such as the Pesta Sekurah festival, the community strives to strengthen social bonds and preserve cultural heritage. This study highlights the importance of reinforcing cultural identity within the Kepaksian Buay Bejalan Diway community and its contribution to the preservation of local history. The article also reveals the significance of historical legacies, such as sacred heirlooms and holy sites, which are carefully guarded by direct descendants. The Gedung Dalem Kepaksian serves as a cultural preservation center where traditional rituals and annual ceremonies are held, including the active involvement of the younger generation.
