Abstract

The renewable energy transition and digital transformation have emerged as strategic interdisciplinary research fields, yet the literature remains fragmented across technological, methodological, and geographical dimensions. This study maps the intellectual structure, thematic evolution, and research gaps in digital transformation and renewable energy transition research during 2020–2026. A PRISMA 2020-based systematic literature review integrated with bibliometric analysis using Bibliometrix and VOSviewer was conducted on 1,019 Scopus-indexed journal articles. The findings reveal a sharp increase in publications since 2023, with Energies, IEEE Access, and Renewable Energy as the leading publication sources. China, India, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom dominate scientific production. Research has shifted from conventional renewable energy technologies toward smart energy systems enabled by artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, blockchain, and digital twins. Three major research gaps were identified: incomplete technology integration, a technology-centered perspective that underrepresents organizational and policy dimensions, and limited evidence from developing countries. Based on these findings, this study proposes an integrated conceptual framework linking digital transformation technologies, digital capabilities, energy transition processes, and sustainability outcomes to guide future research and policy development.
