Abstract

Churches in North Sulawesi are often built in stages, so one building may contain concrete from several periods and seismic code generations. Indonesian church assessments mostly describe damage in a single building and offer no repeatable procedure linking age, measured damage, and testing depth. This article proposes such a procedure for reinforced concrete churches. It has four stages: screening with age categories tied to thresholds of 10 and 50 years, a 0 to 4 visual damage score for accessible columns, beams, and slabs, non-destructive testing whose density follows an age–damage matrix, and an ordered rule assigning one of four fitness statuses. Screening placed three GMIM churches completed in 2022, 1989, and 1967 in the new, old, and aged categories. A deterministic test of the initial draft showed that one column scored 3 yields a condition value of 63.7 with published AHP weights and 75.0 with equal weights, so a new church with a severely cracked column would receive only basic or extended testing. A graded critical-element rule was added, and enumerating all 64 score combinations confirmed that it sends every such column to the highest testing level. Weights, testing thresholds, and statuses still require expert validation and field calibration.
