Technological and curricular advancements necessitate a student-centered approach to biology education that optimizes critical thinking skills. This study aims to provide a systematic overview of publication trends, learning models employed, platforms or software used, forms of interactivity, and key findings regarding the use of interactive e-modules to enhance students' critical thinking in biology. A Systematic Literature Review method was employed, adhering to PRISMA guidelines. Literature searches were conducted via Google Scholar using the "Publish or Perish" application for the period of 2022–2026, followed by bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer software. The selection process yielded 22 articles that met the inclusion criteria for further analysis. The results indicate a significant rise in publication trends, particularly between 2025 and 2026. Problem-Based Learning emerged as the most frequently utilized learning model. The development of interactive e-modules incorporates various tools and integrates artificial intelligence, featuring dynamic multimedia, interactive navigation, and real-time feedback-based evaluations. Interactive e-modules have proven effective in facilitating critical thinking indicators such as analysis, inference, and evaluation especially when addressing abstract biological concepts. Therefore, integrating problem-based learning models with interactive e-modules featuring dynamic multimedia is highly recommended for biology instruction to move away from conventional methods and foster student learning autonomy.
