Abstract

Elementary school children's understanding of body parts and basic first aid still needs strengthening because many students do not yet know the function of internal organs or how to manage minor injuries that commonly occur at school and at home. Some families in the community also continue to rely on longstanding home remedies for handling injuries that are not medically appropriate. This community service activity aimed to improve the health knowledge of grade six students at elementary school at 73 Bengkulu City regarding body part recognition and basic first aid. The activity was carried out on monday, 31 Agustus 2026 and was attended by 14 students. The method consisted of delivering material through a presentation, followed by hands on practice of the World Health Organization six step handwashing technique and first aid practice for common injuries such as abrasions, minor bleeding, bruises, sprains, burns, and nosebleeds. The session also addressed several longstanding home remedies that remain common in the community although they are not medically sound. The activity showed that students actively praticipated throughout the session, were able to explain the body part material they had learned, and were able to demonstrate correct six step handwashing and basic wound care according to the guidance given. These findings suggest that combining material delivery with direct practice can improve elementary school children's undrestanding of basic health care. Continude implementation of similar programs in cooperation with schools is recommended to help sustain healthy habits among students.
