Abstract

Islamic education is essential for Muslims, including new converts who need guidance to understand and practice Islam according to Islamic law. This study aims to identify the patterns of Islamic religious education for new converts at the Muhammad Cheng Ho Sriwijaya PITI Foundation in South Sumatra, based in Palembang, and the factors supporting and hindering their learning. The findings are expected to help the community address existing challenges, learn from previous converts’ experiences, and encourage mutual self-improvement to become good servants of Allah. The study found that new converts learn through democratic and permissive approaches. Hindering factors include family circumstances, low economic status, limited Islamic knowledge due to non-Muslim family backgrounds, a shortage of Islamic preachers, work commitments, and personal factors. Supporting factors include family involvement, a supportive environment, and a dedicated community for converts that provides a shared purpose and common ground for learning and deepening their understanding of Islam.
