Abstract

Seedless watermelon (Citrullus lanatus Thunb.) is a horticultural commodity whose growth and fruit development require appropriate management. This study evaluated the effects of natural plant growth regulators derived from bean sprout extract, aloe vera, and young coconut water on the growth and yield of seedless watermelon. The experiment was conducted from March to July 2025 in Lantapan Village, Galang District, Tolitoli Regency, Indonesia. A one-factor Randomized Complete Block Design was used, consisting of four treatments: K0 (no growth regulator), K1 (bean sprout extract), K2 (aloe vera extract), and K3 (young coconut water), with four replications. Each plot measured 2 × 1 m and contained four plants, of which three were sampled. The observed parameters were plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, flowering time, fruit circumference, and fruit weight. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance followed by the Honestly Significant Difference test at the 5% level. Natural growth regulator treatments affected several growth and yield parameters. At 35 days after planting, K3 produced the highest plant height (111.50 cm), the largest number of leaves (38.50), and the greatest stem diameter (11.67 mm). K2 produced the earliest flowering time at 26.75 days after planting, while K3 produced comparatively high fruit circumference and fruit weight across the three harvests. These findings indicate that young coconut water may serve as a natural growth-regulator alternative to support the growth and yield of seedless watermelon under the conditions of this study.
