Abstract

The use of authentic assessment in speaking tests has gained greater significance to close the gap between theory and practice in the classroom. Although its value in measuring actual language skills in everyday life is known, its effective implementation by teachers remains a problem and inconsistencies in measuring students' speaking skills are the result. This study aims to explore the implementation of authentic assessment in speaking tests in SMA Negeri 5 Pamekasan, namely the implementation processes employed by teachers and the impact towards the students' actual speaking abilities. Conducting a qualitative descriptive study, data were collected using interviews, observation, and documents to represent the naturalistic nature of the classroom and the teachers' assessment strategies. The study reveals that SMA Negeri 5 Pamekasan teachers have informal and formative tests that involve reading aloud, pronunciation, intonation, and confidence measures in classroom interactions. Question-answer and reading aloud are some of the strategies used to overcome the students' shyness to speak and judge more realistically their communications. The study concludes that authentic assessment, when properly understood and implemented, exactly measures students' speaking skill under actual circumstances and helps teachers know how to direct further improvement. This study provides implications and pedagogical suggestions for teachers to enhance authentic assessment practice in English speaking courses.

Abstract

Falls among the elderly are a major concern in both clinical practice and public health. Studies have shown that falls occur more frequently at home than outside home. This study aimed to identify the areas and types of home environmental hazards present in the residences elderly individuals. A quantitative descriptive study was conducted from April to May 2024 accross six primary healthcare centers in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, selected from having the highest number of elderly patients. A total of 100 elderly respondents were recruited using a multistage purposive convenience sampling method. Data collection was carried out using an instrument consisting of two parts: the first part focused on respondent characteristics and the second part on home environmental hazards. The study variables were respondent characteristics and environmental hazards in the terrace, living room, stairs, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and garage. Data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel software and presented in tabular form. Results showed that all areas of the home posed potential hazards, with the presence of scattered items on the floor as the commonly identified risk. In specific areas such as the kitchen, high shelves were found, and in the bathroom, there were slippery floors, squat toilets, absence of handrails, and inward-opening bathroom door. Home can be a source of environmental hazards that increase the fall risk among the elderly. It is essential to provide the elderly with adequate information on these risk to encourage preventive actions and, where necessary, home modifications that improve safety and reduce the risk of falls.

Abstract

Hypertension is a condition when a person has systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 90 mmHg when measured at a clinic or health facility. Hypertension can be a risk factor of important organs damage such as the brain, heart, kidneys, retina, large blood vessels (aorta) and peripheral blood vessels. To prevent the complications, hypertensive patients must control their blood pressure. One approach to achieving controlled blood pressure is involving the family in hypertension management, which is called Family Centered Care. This approach has been implemented at Mitra Sehati Clinic, a private clinic located in Bandung Regency, West Java. This study aims to determine the implementation of hypertension management using the Family Centered Care approach at Mitra Sehati Clinic. This research is a qualitative research using a single case study method. The data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation and then analyzed using interpretive analysis methods in which emerging themes were interpreted based on the theory of Family Centered Care and hypertension so they became the basis for describing certain conclusions. The results obtained show that all elements of Family Centered Care in the management of hypertension have been carried out by health workers at the Mitra Sehati Clinic which are also included in several programs. In addition, a positive impact was found on patients, their families and health workers. However, in its implementation, obstacles were found, it was limited time. The solution was to use online consultations via the doctor's or nurse's personal cellphone number. Implementation of Family Centered Care in the management of hypertension has a good impact on patients, their families and health workers.

Abstract

Therefore, a good understanding of BLS in general has the potential to increase the chances of survival of OHCA sufferers. Understanding of BLS from parties such as members of occupational safety and health unit or also known as K3 who are routinely involved in crowd activities is still far from optimal. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve the understanding and skills of BLS for K3 parties so that efforts to increase the life chances of OHCA through BLS can be optimal. Increase theoretical and practical knowledge related to BLS in an interesting and easy to understand manner, so that it can become a model for considering the implementation of routine educational activities by UNPAD for K3 members. Training activities include education, cardiovascular exercise, and workshops with evaluation measurements for theoretical understanding as well as evaluation of BLS skills to measure practical understanding of targets. Collecting participant responses will also be carried out as an evaluation of the form of activity. PEKA-BHD activities succeeded in increasing participants' theoretical understanding regarding basic life support significantly by 54.43% and each participant succeeded in implementing the understanding practically. This activity also received a very good response from participants with 96.7% of participants very satisfied and 96.7% finding the activity very useful. As a follow-up activity, 90% of participants recommended these activities to be carried out sustainably.
