Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Kata Kunci: four tier test diagnostic, miskonsepsi, Suhu, Kalor dan Perpindahannya Abstract In daily life, everyone can?t be separated from Physics. For example, a bonfire that can warm a students body at night is a radiant heat transfer phenomenon. The warmth of the body due to the campfire at night is the initial knowledge possessed by the students (preconception). At school, the teacher teaches the concepts of physics. If students can?t make the right relationship between the preconceptions with new information conveyed by the teacher, it will lead to misconceptions. This study was intended to develop a four-tier misconception diagnostic test (FTDT) for Temperature and Heat Transfer concepts. The aim was to determine the worthiness of the FTDT instrument in terms of the validity and the reliability aspects and to identify students?s misconception profiles on the Temperature and Heat Transfer concepts. R & D (research and development) model was used in this study. The students of XI MIPA 2, XI MIPA 3 and XI MIPA 4 was chosen as the test sample. The trial of the FTDT instrument was conducted twice, namely Trial 1 and Trial 2. The Trial 1 was conducted to the 70 students of XI MIPA 2 and XI MIPA 3 in order to determine the validity and the reliability of the instrument. Whereas Trial 2 was conducted to 32 (XI MIPA 4) students to identify the student?s misconceptions profiles. The data obtained from Trial 1 shows that the developed instrument is categorized as a valid instrument with the percentage of FP and FN is 9.82 % and 9.10 % respectively; the empirical construct validity is 0, 8185; the instrument reliability that was obtained using Alpha Cronbach correlation is 1.067. Whereas the results of the Trial 2 show that the majority of the XI IPA 4 students experienced misconceptions on the Temperature and Heat Transfer concepts. Abstract

Physics was considered by students as the most difficult lesson. One of the reasons is that Physics contains many formulas without being followed by a good explanation of the Physics concepts behind the formulas from the teacher. Such situation potentially causes misconceptions to students. This paper reports the work to develop a four-tier misconception diagnostic test instrument in Dynamic Fluid concepts. The aim was to determine the feasibility of the developed instrument in terms of validity and reliability. The instrument?s validation result was obtained after two independent Physics Lecturers evaluated the content of the instrument. The reliability results was gathered from the test trial to 50 numbers of 11 grade students in Science class of senior high school 1 Sidoarjo. The results show that the validity was 92.55 %. The false positive and false negative values were 4.3% and 3.8%, respectively which means that the instrument is valid because the values less than 10 %. The correlation coefficient of Pearson product moment ( ) was 0.591 while the reliability index value ( ) was 0.751. Those values are greater than the rtable of 0.279, which means that the developed instrument is reliable. Keywords: Dynamic fluid concepts, four-tier diagnostic test, validity, reliability

Abstract

Misconceptions was reported to occur in many concepts in Physics subject in senior high school. One of them is in Kinetic Theory of Gases concepts. For example, students assumed if two balloons with different volumes are connected using a plastic straw, the air will flow from the bigger balloon to the small balloon. This assumption is not in accordance with the Kinetic Theory of Gases concept namely Boyle?s Law, so it is called misconception. The aims of this study is to develop a five-tier conception diagnostic test for Kinetic Theory of Gases and determine the validity and the reliability. The author using two different samples, first, 27 students to collect reasons, second, 35 students to gain validity and reliability score. The validity aspect consists of internal and external validities. The internal validity has done by two Physics lecturers. The external validity consists of content and construct aspect. The external validity of the content was determined based on false positives (FP) and false negatives (FN) values that < 10%, while the construct external validity was determined using the Pearson Product Moment correlation equation. The reliability was calculated using Alfa Cronbach (r_11) with 5% significance level and rtheoritic of 0.334. The internal validity results is 94.33%. The FP and FN values are 8.9 and 7.8% respectively, which means that the developed instrument is valid. The (r_xy) is 0.64, while the reliability value (r_11) is 0.885. Those values are greater than the rtheoritic, which means that the developed instrument is valid and reliable. Keywords: Kinetic theory of gases, five-tier conception diagnostic test, validity, reliability
